The Power of Drilling Simulation Technology: Accelerating Workforce Skills and Reducing Risks

 

In Indonesia – oil imports continue to exceed the domestic production; this has caused an increase in the emphasis of energy self-sufficiency, with less focus on imports. In addition, shifts towards renewable energy in Indonesia has affected investments in upstream oil and gas – this has led to decreases in exploration and development activities. 

With 70% of Indonesia’s wells being mature, it has become imperative for new exploration discoveries to be made. Therefore, SKK Migas have developed new strategic measures and targets for Indonesia in 2025. These targets are to be achieved by: 

• Optimizing Existing Production – Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR): This technology extracts remaining oil from mature wells. The challenge is the implementation of this technology requires high capital investment and regular support measures. 

• Increasing Exploration Activities: Exploring new reserves is vital for Indonesia, which has many untapped basins with potential oil and gas. The challenge is that the location of these reserves are moving from onshore to offshore, especially deep sea areas. This means exploration activities are becoming more complex and require better technology and capital. 
• Accelerated Field Development: Accelerating the development of current reserves can shorten the gap between exploration and production.

2025 Oil and Gas Targets in Indonesia 

• The target for Indonesia is to increase drilling exploration wells by 18% and development wells by 11% from the previous year.
• The target of oil barrels produced per day in 2025 is now 605,000 BOPD.
• The target of oil and gas production is 1,610,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOEPD).

In order to meet the ambitious growth plans – the Indonesian Oil and Gas sector needs to better equip its workforce with:

2. Ability to handle common challenges we face in operations such as Stuck Pipe, lost circulation, etc. appropriately to significantly reduce Non-productive time.
